Gain vs. Mouthnoises

I can well imagine that needing to do ACX Check every ten minutes is extraordinarily difficult. Not that the software can’t easily devine the peaks and loudness (RMS), it can, but to measure noise, it needs to have 3/4 second of pure, clean room tone to measure, each time it runs.

These are from the ACX submission page.

…have a running time no longer than 120 minutes
…have room tone at the beginning and end and be free of extraneous sounds

So the ends of a chapter are the only places guaranteed to have enough Room Tone to measure.

ACX Check isn’t written by ACX. It’s one of ours and we determined by experiment that it matches the robot at ACX. If you can pass ACX Check and can read out loud in a quiet, echo-free room, your submission stands a terrific chance of being accepted.

I make that sound so easy…

Haha, I just got that the limit is ten seconds from a bad blog post somewhere…you’re right!

Yep, definitely try to shut down as many apps as possible when running Audacity.

I even find one pass of the plug-in to muffle the crispness a bit too much. At this point, I think my best bet is to be vigilant about water sips every ten lines or so and getting as clean a first pass as I can.

Thanks again!
