Apparently Windows can be set for mono (1 channel) and that doesn’t stop Audacity from being set to stereo (2 channels) while Windows is only feeding-it one channel. See [u]this post[/u].
In that case it turned-out to be a hardware problem but if you can follow that outline and find the 2-channel stereo setting in Windows you may be able to correct your problem.
