Audacity failed to read from a file (Mac)

Of course you are right. :grinning:

What’s up Jademan. I found your thread, and I now have hope again. I recorded 7 hours of music for the 4. DJ’s who spun with me Saturday, and my pup.3 file got corrupted when my hard drive ran out of space while editing on Sunday. The same thing happened to the other recording from Sunday night, and I am stuck on how to fix it. My son has a gaming PC laptop, but I don’t know if it has the required 32 bit Windows (?) to run the repair plugin (?), and I honestly have no experience working with programming like this.

Please let me know if you are willing to also assist me, I would be so grateful. Thanks so much,

David Harris

You must have missed Jademan’s post where he says he doesn’t do this any more.

Could you please post how many corrupted project files you have and, crucially, how large they are?

Thanks,

Mark B

2 files. One is showing at around 19 GB, and the other is around 23 GB.

Had the files not been so enormous, I would have asked you to send them to me but they are way too big to send. I think your best bet is to copy them to your son’s PC and use the Audacity project tools to repair them if possible.

thank you Mark

Did you make any headway with this?

Please post back if you get something to work and how you did it. This is a forum, users helping each other.

A note that Audacity makes a copy of your show each time you edit. That’s how it does the protective “UNDO” process. That also means that after four edits, that second show is taking up 92GB. Does that give you an idea where your memory, storage, and stability are going?

You might decide to do your show in smaller pieces to keep that kind of accumulation from happening.

I have it uploaded on my Dropbox, sent to two friends but haven’t made time to work at it on a PC with Audacity yet…

I can share the link if you think you can help

It can’t hurt to try, I guess.

The download failed after more than an hour.

shit… do you think I should compress it for transfer?

thank you so much for your help with this…

Probably not. My guess would be it won’t compress all that much.

I didn’t do that much. I tried again using a download manager and it failed at 79% (about 13GB downloaded). I hope the devs can help you because I don’t want to spend any more time on this. I hope you sort it out somehow.
