2.3.3 plug-in references that won't go away.

THis one has me baffled. So if you down the .zip audicity and you add some external plug-ins, like for example voxenego…Nova…whatever…and you decide you want a clean version of audicity with any external plugins (and you don’t want to go in to disable them) so you delete the audacitiy directory that you unzipped (so…no audicity on the system, nothing in the registry – just to be sure)…so you delete the audacity .zip…everything…download a new one…reboot the machine, yet it shows the old plugins. If its not in the PLUG-INS directory, where the heck is it finding the references to what was in there before? I don’t see any registry entries, everything was wiped, yet it knows about them. Must be a magic file somewhere?

Correct. They’re kept is a special place that survives a program change or upgrade. Normally, this is a good thing. You do an upgrade and just carry on with all your old settings and tools.

That’s not so good when you want to do a clean start. This is especially problematic if you break something. The normal flush everything and start over doesn’t work, and there’s no shortcut…yet.

This is where I tell you how to delete those files, except I don’t know where they are on Windows. If you were on a Mac…

The plug-in references are saved in the “pluginregistry.cfg” file.
That file is in the same location as Audacity’s other config files:

• Windows: Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\audacity\
• Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/
• Linux: ~/.audacity-data/

Thank you, I wish i had a MAC. but this PC is free. . Just can’t beat it.

And of course i got caught up in my own thinking, lets do the hard things…search the registery…re-download the .zip , software support and some programming has taught me nothing
