Arming a track to record

I have a program that the track has to be armed before recording but I can’t find a place to arm a track in Audacity. How does Audacity know on which track to record?

Up to and including Audacity 2.1.3, by default, Audacity will record to a new audio track.
To continue recording in an existing track, select the track that you wish to record into, then “Append Record” (shortcut: Shift + R)

In the next Audacity release (which will be 2.2.0), the default behaviour will be to record on the end of the first selected track, or if no tracks are selected, to the end of the first track in the project. “Append Record” will become “Shift + R” (or Shift + Record button).

To arm Audacity for recording:

  1. Presss the Pause button on the Transport Toolbar
  2. Press the Record button on the Transport Toolbar

Audacity is now “armed”

when ready to record:

  1. Presss the Pause button on the Transport Toolbar

I was going to post a link to the Recording page in the Manual for you - but when I looked at it, I saw that we say nothing about arming there. I will correct that for the upcoming 2.2.0 Manual. That was a good steer, thanks.
