Error message everytime I log in

This has been happening for a really long time and I’m getting tired of it. I usually just click off and everything is fine. But I’d love to get this fixed once and for all because it is annoying. This is the message:

Apache/2.4.41 (Ubuntu) Server at manual.audacityteam.org Port 80

It’s probably something that I don’t know how to do, but I can get my computer tech person to figure it out if someone tells me what it is all about. Thank you.

Before muse group took over Audacity, the Audacity manual was published on-line for each new release. That allowed Audacity to access the manual without having to download it (provided that the computer has a default web browser that can access the Internet).

Unfortunately, the manual is being discontinued, and there is no longer a full Audacity on-line for Audacity to connect to.

In older versions of Audacity (most likely what you have), there’s a setting in Preferences that allows you to switch to using a locally installed copy of the manual. Old Windows releases of Audacity installed the manual locally by default - in which case selecting the local manual should fix the problem (after a restart). If the local manual is not installed, then the manual will still not be available from within the app, but I think it’ll stop that warning message.

Thank you so so much for this! I will check it out. And if that solves the problem, I will be grateful.

Hello, and thanks for helping! I tried to follow your advice and instructions, but sadly I do not have an option to select local. This is what it looks like.

That looks like a later version of Audacity.

Which version is it?
You are on Windows?

I am on 3.3.3 and yes I use Windows.

It seems very odd to me that 3..3 should be trying to access http://manual.audacityteam.org, but Audacity 3.3.3 is quite old now, and there were a lot of random bugs popping up between versions 3.1 and 3.7.

You could try the current 3.7.7 version, which is available from here: Releases · audacity/audacity · GitHub
but I would strongly recommend completing any projects that you are working on before updating.

I do not want to update. I hear horrible stories about the new versions.
