Getting noise removal profile crashes Audacity Beta

Post by SACarrow » Fri May 15, 2009 12:19 pm

I'm on WinXP SP3, and upon clicking Get Noise Profile after selecting an interval results in an immediate "Send Error Report?" - style crash. I DLed the alpha (Audacity ® 1.3.8-alpha_May 1 2009 (Unicode)) and it happened there as well. I was using noise reduction with abandon a couple of months ago with 1.3.7; is there a DLL that might have been overwritten when installing another app? Also I was trying this on a WAV file, so I don't believe MP3 issues are involved.

Thanks,
Steve

"This always used to work until I started filling up my hard drive?"

How long does it take to defrag your drive? Does it pass error check OK?

Unless you are using Clean Speech Mode (Interface tab of Preferences) the noise profile is stored in memory. I can't reproduce a crash here. Try completely resetting your preferences by removing all content from audacity.cfg except "NewPrefsInitialized=1". Instructions here.

Pres ALT + CTRL + DEL then the Performance tab of Task Manager. Keep an eye on CPU and memory usage when using Audacity.
