Selecting part of the spectrogram-view makes it go dark, so dark I have to unselect it to see what I'm doing.
What about darkening non-selected the parts of the spectrogram-view instead ? , e.g. here's a before-after comparison ...
Could carry this darken-the-unselected convention to the waveform-view for consistency, (but I'm not fussy, it's the spectrogram which is rendered unusable by darkening, particularly when it is surrounded by the bright "light theme" frame).
Highlighting by darkening is illogical & impractical

The same is true (to a lesser extent) with selecting in waveform view.
It always strikes me as odd whenever I try to explain "highlighting" of a selection.
