Hi

to create a portable version , i create an empty folder "Portable Settings"
but i have noticed that audacity Audacity 2.1.2 & Audacity 2.1.3 create an empty folder here c:\Users\MYNAME\AppData\Local\Audacity\
is it a bug?
could be fixed ? or is there a fix to avoid the creation of this folder?
just becase i use at work , and i can't use other software
I use audacity and download from here http://www.audacityteam.org/
thanks

Re: portable version ,create an empty folder
I don't know if this will work but you can try changing the Temporary files directory.

Re: portable version ,create an empty folder
That is the default location of the Audacity folder for temporary data (the SessionData folder inside that folder stores the temp files).nomenomen wrote:to create a portable version , i create an empty folder "Portable Settings"
but i have noticed that audacity Audacity 2.1.2 & Audacity 2.1.3 create an empty folder here c:\Users\MYNAME\AppData\Local\Audacity\
That folder is not where Audacity settings are stored, which is C:\Users\<user name >\AppData\Roaming\Audacity.
If C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Audacity exists, which it will do if you ran Audacity before creating the Portable Settings folder, Audacity correctly does not delete that folder. But it should only be using the settings in Portable Settings.nomenomen wrote:is it a bug? could be fixed ? or is there a fix to avoid the creation of this folder?

With Portable Settings existing, change Snap To bottom left of Audacity to "Previous" and exit Audacity. Restart Audacity. Do you still see "Previous"?
Exit Audacity. Rename Portable Settings to something else, then restart Audacity. "Previous" should now have changed to "Off". Exit Audacity, rename the folder back to Portable Settings and restart Audacity. "Off" should have reverted to "Previous".

Reason: Clarify that the Audacity temp folder and settings folder are in two different locations

Re: portable version ,create an empty folder
Sorry, I read a little too quickly and missed that you had given the location of the Audacity temp folder rather than the location of the Audacity settings directory, which is different. Doug was incorrect in saying that the temp folder has any bearing on this.
I corrected my reply: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 86#p327186. Please read it again, and it should now make sense. The Audacity settings directory will not be recreated if you delete it before running Audacity with a "Portable Settings" folder.
The Audacity temp folder will be recreated whether Audacity uses Portable Settings or not. That is correct.
Note that we do not support https://portableapps.com/apps/music_vid ... y_portable. I am talking only about Audacity supplied by us from http://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
