What version of Audacity are you using? What version of Windows? See the pink panel at the top of the page.stardust2003 wrote: just recorded about 2 min of audio and tried to download it as mp3

Try the instructions at http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_ ... .html#lame. Install LAME in Program Files (or Program Files(x86) if you are on a 64-bit version of Windows).
If you need to browse for the file in Audacity's Libraries Preferences, select "lame_enc.dll".

Re: lame
If you download and run the Audacity-LAME EXE file, it should create the 'Lame For Audacity' folder and install it in the correct place. Make sure you are using the Audacity version of LAME.in the past Im just put the lame file in a folder in documents....
In the meantime if you can't get it working, you can export to WAV and then use a 3rd-party MP3 encoder (such as TAudioConverter) to make the MP3.

Re: lame
You can't use arbitrary versions of the LAME encoder downloaded from anywhere.
If you don't like the idea of installing LAME in Program Files, get the file "libmp3lame-win-3.99.3.zip" file from http://lame.buanzo.org/#lamewindl then extract the ZIP file where you want.

Re: lame
THANK YOU Gale, you inspired me to have one last attempt at getting this sorted
and finally.... it worked !
I was resigned to getting a wav file and then later converting those wav files to mp3
just did a file ............. it came out as 8.8 meg as a wav file
.................... 8oo k as an mp3 file
so you can see the advantage of going for mp3 !
thanks again for all the help and advice !

Re: lame [SOLVED]
There is of course the disadvantage of the quality loss, though you may not necessarily be able to hear it.stardust2003 wrote: I was resigned to getting a wav file and then later converting those wav files to mp3

I will mark this topic as [SOLVED] and lock it, as you seem to be satisfied now.
