Re: It cant access my sound device...
You should set up the record device in the operating system rather than depend on Audacity. I can get a lot more specific if you told me what kind of computer you had.

Re: It cant access my sound device...
Hi, I have the same problem. I don't get any input devices listed in the "mixer tools" as the documentation shows.
I have "gramofile" which finds my "line in" ok and records, but the editing functions are scarce. I would prefer to use Audacity.
Any help would be most appreciated

Re: It cant access my sound device...
Hi, I just installed Kubuntu 7.10 beta which had Audacity 1.3.3 in its repository.
I downloaded it and the various input items showed up. I selected "line"
Going to edit>preferences>audio i/o I set Playback & Record devices to my sound card
Going to the computer "input>mixer>line" made sure it was active and set the volume up.
I removed the "Amarok" from my computer
re-boote my computer.
connected a cassette player whose output was verified in another computer to the "line input"
I assumed you started things going by pressing the "Play" button (2 nd button from left)
Nothing happens!!
Any suggestions??

Yes, 2:impeteperry wrote:Any suggestions?? -pete
1) Pressing play in Audacity will only playback a sound that's imported or recording in Audacity. If there's nothing there then you shouldn't be hearing anything.
2) I don't mean to be snippy, but you'll get much better help posting this in the Audacity 1.3.3 GNU/Linux forum. I have only a small amount of experience with GNU/Linux and I doubt many of the other users who frequent this particular forum do either:

Thanks.
I had been posting here and when I decides to upgrade my Kubuntu and found that it contained 3.3, I forgot I was in the 2.6 forum. sorry about that.
You weren't snippy. thanks
pete
