When I try recording a file through the "wave out mix" drop down selection (next to microphone volume control) I only get a mono recording - even though the source file is in stereo. Any way I can get it to record in stereo?
I've tried fixing it through Control Panel on my computer at audio and sounds - but I can't find anything to change from mono to stereo.
I also know that on some OS's you get something called "Stereo mix" -- but I don't get that on my version of Audacity with the OS that I'm running on (which btw, is a Windows 2000 Pro).
So is there some adjustment I can make in Audacity so that I can get it to record stereo files in stereo through "Wave out mix" ?

Audacity wakes up from its first birthday in one channel Mono. Change in the Preferences Control Panel--different slightly on different machines.
