Export to .wav problems
I have been using both the stable version as well as the beta version of Audacity and have experience the same export problem with both versions.
After editing a .wav file of about 1 hours length, the first few minutes the file audio is OK but after that the entire hours length of the recording consists of the initial 15 seconds or so of the audio repeated over and over again, thousands of times. This only happens occasionally but it is extremely annoying to have a useless file after spending an hour or two of editing.
I have no idea as to what triggers this export error as it doesn't happen enough to really pinpoint a sequence of events. Does anyone else have this problem? Could it be my machine? I edit the .wav files directly (i.e. No project files) so could that be the problem? I have a screwed up file that I could provide, but it is about 650k.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Export to .wav problems
Audacity does not edit audio files directly - it always works with projects.scottmacneill wrote:I edit the .wav files directly (i.e. No project files) so could that be the problem?
There's not really enough information in your post to determine exactly what is going on, but a read of this article may provide the necessary information to enable you to work it out: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... ement_Tips
Also, are you using the latest beta version? (1.3.7.1)

Re: Export to .wav problems
We are seeing this as well. We're currently on 1.3.3 but are about to go to the current Beta.

Re: Export to .wav problems
An hour show would be 650MB, not 650KB. Is that a typo?
Audacity converts shows to its own internal format for editing and then depends on you Exporting As WAV or whatever your final product is. At the same time, Audacity is a terrible converter program, so it's the best of both worlds.
I do almost this same exact dance several times a week and I've never heard of anything like this. It's instructive that it happens to both Audacity 1.2 and Audacity 1.3. It's also instructive that you're impression is of one who has been doing this a long time. How full is your hard drive? When was the last time you defragmented it? Audacity will not work into a full or highly fragmented hard drive.
Right Click Start > Explore > Right Click Local Drive C: > Properties > Tools > Error Checking & Defragmentation.
Do both. Audio (and video) production machines need at least 15% or better high quality, free space to work right. If the defragmentation tool looks like it's going to take two weeks to finish, you may need to investigate a larger drive or start using an external drive for archiving the work. If it just takes any hours, then just wait it out and then do it again in a day or two. It goes faster and faster as the drive becomes cleaner and more orderly.
An additional note: You can't move Audacity Projects. WAV files, yes. They move perfectly. Projects take great care and special attention. It's usually best to not move them at all.

Don't go to 1.3.10. 1.3.10 has great difficulty with Export Multiple. Known Problem.

If that's the "rounding up exports to the nearest 5 seconds" issue, Export Selection has it too.kozikowski wrote:<<<but are about to go to the current Beta.>>>

Redwood, do you know what steps create this "repeated sections" problem? Something similar has been reported in 1.3 from time to time when you imported a WAV file, then exported a selection to that WAV, so overwriting it. I don't think this problem should be there in 1.3.10 or 1.3.11 Alpha, but someone who wrote to me recently suggested it might be. Rather than try 1.3.10, can you try the 1.3.11 Alpha. This already has the fix for the rounding up issue.
To use that, extract the contents of the zip to a new folder and double-click audacity.exe from that new folder to launch it. It will not affect any installation of 1.3 you may have already.
Thanks
Gale

Re: Export to .wav problems
I'm also having an export problem, and I wonder if anyone can tell me if it's related to the "rounding up exports to the nearest 5 seconds" problem referred to in this thread:
I started using Audacity 1.3.10 today to copy some of my old LPs to CD. I'm feeding the output of the phono preamp into my PCs line in, and playing the LP to "feed" it into Audacity. Then I'm adding splits between each of the songs, adding labels to each of the tracks, and exporting to WAV files using the Export Multiple command. (Basically, I'm following the instructions in the help file here: C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)helpmanualtutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.html)
The problem is, on some of the songs - not all, but maybe 4 or 5 times on a 12-song LP, the first second or two of the next song will play at the end of the previous song. Then it will start over again at the beginning of the next file, like it's supposed to. Does this sound like a different symptom of the same problem, or am I doing something wrong?
Edit: I tried exporting the tracks individually (using Export Selection), and it did the same thing, adding the start of the next song to the end of a couple of the tracks.
Any help in resolving this problem will be greatly appreciated! This newbie is stuck.

Re: Export to .wav problems
1.3.11 fixed the problem. Thanks for your help, Bill!
BTW, any idea when 1.3.11 (or subsequent) will be released to beta?
