Help for Audacity on macOS.

Please state which version of macOS you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Audacity menu > About Audacity".


Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

I take the point, rtomasov, however some of this may be tangentially relevant to anyone else experiencing device problems on OS X and searching the Forum for help. This isn't one-to-one support just for you. Unlike Apple, we've tried to help you a lot, despite this doesn't seem to be an Audacity issue.

Is this a new Mac now or the same Mac? If it's a new Mac with combined audio input and output, you can get an iPhone headset for it.

Gale, I'm well aware you've helped me a lot after I've started this thread which was directly related to Audacity if you remember the initial issue with Audacity seemingly taking control of audio output device.
What I was not aware of is, this may be tangentially relevant to anyone else experiencing device problems on OS X and searching the Forum for help.

Behringer, yes. Forgot about the FCA202. There could be a couple of others too.

But I've never seen a Motu or an UAD work without drivers. Don't know about Lexicon. And I'm absolutely certain RME doesn't use the Firewire class audio drivers. You couldn't even switch on phantom power, set gain, or do another couple of things without the RME driver. It is true though, that you can use recent RME USB devices in standalone mode with the USB class compliant mode driver, fi with an ipad or a phone. But you need to set them up first. And you can use the Firewire RME devices in standalone mode too, as a mixer, but not as a class compliant interface. I guess it is much the same for MOTU and UAD.

Keeping it simple, Apple has made it rather complex for pro interfaces...
