I realize that LogMeIn is hard to completely uninstall, but I had gone through a process I found. But to make sure, I went through and checked again, and this time I tried to use the sequence on this page
http://help.logmein.com/articles/en_US/ ... c-manually
and I also tried to use CleanMyMac 2, a program that I happened to have and advertises it can do this uninstall. Finally, I used Spotlight to remove every trace of LogMeIn I could find (I have 4 HDD with various previous systems, mostly backups, and although I no longer startup from them, I removed LogMeIn traces from them as well).

Nevertheless, when I emptied the trash and then restarted, I found the exact same playback problem I've been describing in this thread, even though I tried the various changes in Project Rate & Sample Format.

Thanks again for all the help.

"Clean My Mac" doesn't have a good reputation. Some consider it malware...

This is my last shot. ;)

Download and install Soundflower-2.0b2.dmg and Soundflowerbed.app from the links on http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tuto ... n_mac.html.

In this case we are not going to record playback, but set Soundflower to take the output of the USB device then set Audacity to use Soundflower as the playback device.

Launch Soundflowerbed.app. It shows up as a flower icon in Finder's menu bar.

Open System Preferences > Sound, and set "Soundflower (2ch)" as the output device.

In the Finder Menu bar, click the Soundflowerbed icon and in the "Soundflower (2ch)" section, click on your USB device so that it has a tick (checkmark) by it.

Then in Audacity choose "Soundflower (2ch)" as the playback device. Be prepared to fiddle with buffer settings in Soundflowerbed (in the same menu) and reduce "Audio to buffer" in Audacity's Recording Preferences if you get error opening or clicky playback in Audacity.

This works for me with a USB sound card, but the playback volume is much reduced choosing Soundflower compared to playing direct to the USB device. Setting "Soundflower (2ch)" as the input device in System Preferences doesn't make any difference to this and isn't necessary.
