How Not to Record both sides of Skype

How Not to Record both sides of Skype

In my version of Audacity, I have never recorded both sides of a Skype call. A friend and I are trying to record our own side of the conversation, each using Audacity.

For some reason, his version won't allow him NOT to record my voice. The selector box on the Mixer Toolbar is always grayed out. We've tried going into the Skype audio settings, the preferences on Audacity, settings in Control Panel... can't figure out what's going on.

We both have XP.

Which recording device do you have selected in the Audacity Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu?
