No line input on vista home

Downloaded the latest version of audacity from the web site. Installation was successful except for one thing. I cannot select the line imput. It is a solid grey with no drop down box. I am using the beta version on my XP and it works fine,. Pls help.

On your desktop (for Windows in the bottom right corner near the clock) you should find a loudspeaker icon from which you can open up either the Windows Mixer, or a custom Sound Card Control Panel. Use that to select and enable your recording source. Note that on some modern machines there is a second icon that holds additional settings for automatic gain control or other recording effects - all effects should be turned off or you will get weird things happen with your recording.
