I love how we can go into the program folder and App Data folder and tinker with everything. Creating and sharing templates for pretty much anything is so easy to do. The open-source platform also allows me to do my own custom calculations in a spreadsheet and program it to spit out customized source code (XML, etc.) that I can copy/paste into app data files.
I think one of the most fun-to-use features of Audacity is the Fast Lookahead Limiter. It's like mowing the lawn, except you can't hear the mower. I was pretty surprised how good things sounded even when mowing down to -24 dB just for fun on a normalized track of spoken word. You're probably not going to have much use for butch haircuts in your real workflow, but you might find it interesting to take a listen for yourself anyhow. Nerdy fun.
