Need test files for that cause Audacity to hang
We're trying to track down the issue with AIFF/AIF/AIFC files and if anyone can provide samples it would help. We know that the 1.3.7 version has an issue, so if you have a file that causes hanging, please try the latest version (scroll all the way down) from here:

If you have a file that hangs the latest from there, I'd be REAL interested in it.
Thanks,
Leland

Re: Need test files for that cause Audacity to hang
You'd think there would be a tidal wave.
1.3.8 20090202 opens up everything conventional. *.wav, *.aif, *.mp3.
I didn't try every variation of bitrate, etc.
I did try 24-bit, a nemesis of Mac systems. I set Audacity defaults for 48000, 24-bit and created a one second show of white noise. I made that into stereo, although why I had to do that is beyond me since it's a stereo Project. I Exported it as a WAV file. Closed Audacity (no Project).
Open Audacity and open my Noise-24-bit.wav. It arrived with no focus, no golden halo and no SpaceBar Play. Once I apply focus, it plays just fine. However, QuickTime Player INFO think's it's a 48000, 16-bit, Stereo, Little Endian, file.
I created a 48000, 32-floating, Stereo show and exported it to a WAV file. QuickTime Player thinks it's 48000, 16-bit, Stereo, and when I pull it back into Audacity. I get a 24-bit timeline.
So this business may need a little more work...

There's another thread in this section that's complaining about similar format scrambling in Mac 1.3.8 or 1.3.7. Doesn't matter, they both do the same thing.

The pink nose file near the bottom of that page is a well behaved 48000, 32Float, Stereo wav file made on Cool Edit 2000. It opens up in CE2K, and Audition on the PC that made it with the correct info panels. It also opens up in Mac QuickTime Player which gives me a correct info panel and it opens up in Mac Audacity 1.3.8 20090202 which also gives me a correct info frame on the left.
Some of the time it arrives with correct focus, halo, and SpaceBar Play.
Do you want me to find that sound file that Audacity made that changes into frightful things in the light of the full moon? I'm afraid I can't make a 24-bit sound file outside of the Mac.

I'll be working on focus in the next day or so. I've found that the following functions cause the halo to behave badly:kozikowski wrote: Some of the time it arrives with correct focus, halo, and SpaceBar Play.
Open
Save Project As
Save Compressed Copy of Project
Import
Export
Export Selection
Mix and Render
Resample
Heck yea, if you can. That'd be great.Do you want me to find that sound file that Audacity made that changes into frightful things in the light of the full moon? I'm afraid I can't make a 24-bit sound file outside of the Mac.

Re: Need test files for that cause Audacity to hang
I'm getting this oddball focus behavior by right-clicking the sound file and Open With...
http://www.kozco.com/audacity/noise_32bit.wav
This one is seriously magic. It was created and exported as a 32-bit floating WAV file. QuickTime Pro thinks it's 16-bit and Audacity 1.3.8 opens it as 24-bit.
Have a happy day.

According to VLC; 16 bit 48kHz 2 channel.kozikowski wrote:This one is seriously magic. It was created and exported as a 32-bit floating WAV file. QuickTime Pro thinks it's 16-bit and Audacity 1.3.8 opens it as 24-bit.
Audacity 1.3.8 (Linux) agrees.
I'm sure that SUPER could add a few details, but I've not got a Windows machine handy at the moment.

That's really weird. I loaded it this morning on Leopard w/Audacity 1.3.8 and it loaded as 32-bit float. sndfile-info command line tool shows it as 16-bit.stevethefiddle wrote:According to VLC; 16 bit 48kHz 2 channel.kozikowski wrote:This one is seriously magic. I'll tear apart the file tonight when I get home.

See?
Be gentle. Wear water-tight gloves.
I have a totally right-brain idea what's going on. The Audacity Export module scrambled the file header. Depending on where the INFO service looks, it gets a different number.
