The old style meters are available in the current version of Audacity, so you don't need to downgrade to the old version.
See here in the manual for how to change the meter style: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/me ... .html#menu
The old meter style is the "RMS" style.

Thanks for your very speedy answer. But I tried that already (all stiles).
I think first I need experience first to know what number is the right volume with the new version.
First I Always make the volume about 0,5 (Picture). Perhaps that is enough for the future, and than I can see the number of the new volume indicator, and this old granddad has to remember that point.

I mean, Always I use Sennheiser headphone and befor I know now what is the right volume I have to watch also the volume indicator of my computer (speaker sign).
I mean on YouTube many uploads of other members oft are "over-steared" (I don't know the wordt in English).
My uploads - until now - has the right volume, also by using more files, mostly classic music.

Sorry, I don't understand what your question is. I thought that you wanted the old style meters, and I have told you how to do that.
Your recording looks OK.

Thanks very much for your time to reply !!
I'll make some tests, and I'm sure this old granddad Cor can work with new version, like the old program, I love.

About 35 (or more) years ago I started with Kaypro II (64k) computer, I have still.
Last time I've tested was 1 year ago and works very good.

A friend had a Kaypro too. I had an Osbourne... CP/M days :)

A lot of videos on YT are distorting because of digital clipping. There are two main reasons:

- People don't know how to set mic gain.
- YT compresses your video again.

It's the second part that is harder to explain. A quote:
The audio on 720p uploads is encoded at 152kbps AAC.

The defects that have been discussed in the past seem to be independent
of the bit rate compression levels, as past serious testers have
demonstrated beyond any degree of debatability, that even heavy
normalization (-6 or even -12 dB) fails to resolve the distortion that
typically affects recordings, especially in the upper and lower reaches
of the frequency range.

The only real conclusion one can reach is that if you want reliable
quality and predictable results, it's best to look to a different
service. YouTube is unparalleled in the amount of data it allows one to
upload at no charge (aside from whatever costs one incurs in rendering
and uploading). You can have good, fast or cheap but you have to choose
only two of those. YouTube seems quite clearly to favor cheap and fast.
Good just isn't a priority, except in window-dressing terms. Not really
much of a surprise if you take time to think about it, and imagine the
business decisions that are likely being made in the background
That's about the best summary I ever came across.

You need to find a good setting for your case. How important is audio?

If you are uploading audio with pictures, there are probably better solutions than YT.

Experiment a bit with 152 Kbps AAC sound. It can be made to sound more than decent, but requires some work.

Just to the right of "Hollandhuis", there's a little triangle. If you click on it, you can set the scale to the left of the waveform to decibels. (Waveform db) Reads a lot easier.

Personally, I tend to judge volume from the waveform...

Thanks very much.

In the meantime I did some tests.
I think by giving less or more volume, the best result is fluctuate / move between 0,4 and 0,7

If you use the new style meters, that is equivalent of the meters going up to the yellow/amber region.
