separating tracks
I have downloaded your instructions for splitting tracks and followed through to 'click the export button' when I should get metadata with the first track title. There are no titles shown. I have tried adding the track titles in order first of all clicking 'add' after each one and then 'OK' after each one. Supposedly when I come to the last track the information will be saved. This doesn't happen. All I get is that export has cancelled after 0 files. I expected to find in my music file the item saved split into the number of tracks for downloading to an MP3. Any advice.

Please see the pink panel at the top of the page and let us know that information.njt wrote:I have downloaded your instructions for splitting tracks and followed through to 'click the export button' when I should get metadata with the first track title. It is best to make sure you are using Audacity 2.1.0 from http://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html and are reading Splitting a recording into separate tracks - Audacity Manual.
So as per that page, add labels to demarcate each song in the track, then use File > Export Multiple... . Type in the metadata you want for the standard seven tag fields in the "Value" cell. The "Add" button adds new custom tags that not all players may see.

I have the latest version of Audacity, downloaded about two months ago. My windows is 8 or to be precise 8.1. I think I have the exe.installer, don't recognise zip. You do say that I should type in information regarding tracks in metadata but I have already done this as I mentioned in my enquiry. Also the information in 'Splitting a recording into separate tracks' I downloaded from the Audacity Development Manual. Hope this helps

Re: separating tracks
You may have a spoof version then because the latest Audacity version supplied by us 2.1.0 which was released less than a month ago. It's very important when we ask for the version number that you give us all three numbers from Help > About Audacity... . Please see the pink panel at the top of the page.njt wrote:I have the latest version of Audacity, downloaded about two months ago.
Meantime please upgrade to 2.1.0 supplied by us: http://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html.
Please obtain 2.1.0 (EXE) from the link above. Then when you have installed it, open Help > Manual... top right of the window to read the Manual for 2.1.0. This ensures you are looking at the correct Manual.njt wrote:My windows is 8 or to be precise 8.1. I think I have the exe.installer, don't recognise zip. The link http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sp ... racks.html can also be used. That link is always correct for the latest version of Audacity, so it is currently correct for 2.1.0.
It is simplest to use Labels to mark the split points, then you can follow http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sp ... racks.html.
As I said, do not use the "Add" button in the Metadata window. When you export multiple, the Metadata window already has Track Title and Track Number filled in. Simply type in the "Value" cell for the other five standard tags. This will work if you use 2.1.0 from the link above.

Re: separating tracks
Hi
My version is Audacity 2.0.6. If this makes a difference will down load the 2.1.0 version.
Thanks

Re: separating tracks
Hi Gale
Have now downloaded 2.1.0 version so will see how that goes. One other point. I recorded two sides of a tape. I now see that I should use the 'pause' to keep the second side on the same track which I have done in my latest recording. However on my first effort I didn't so the two sides comes on two tracks. How to I know which track I am on when splitting?

At least it minimizes the potential issues that this problem can be based on.njt wrote:Hi

Tracks > Align Tracks > Align End to End.
Tracks > Mix and Render.
Now you have both sides of the tape on one Audacity track.

Re: separating tracks
I am having the same problem with the "Export Multiple" function. Just now upgraded from v2.0.6 to 2.1.0. I have read through Audacity's FAQ on this section thoroughly, I go through the process of entering the necessary metadata for each labeled track, clicking OK at each step (instead of save), and being met with "Cannot export audio to C:\Program Files (x86)\Audacity..." etc, and "Export canceled after exporting the following 0 file(s)."
Re: separating tracks
You need to export to a location that is writeable for your account. "C:\Program Files (x86)\" is not writeable for a standard user account. Try exporting to somewhere that is writeable, for example to you "Documents" folder.Tarpeian wrote: "Cannot export audio to C:\Program Files (x86)\Audacity..."
