question about microphone input due to updating drivers
Hello, me again, got a question about microphone input this time. I recently updated my microphone preamp's drivers, and ever since doing so, Audacity could not pick up on the microphone anymore. I would hit R, walk up to my mic, ready to spit, and then it would say "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.". The microphone should be fine, because I can talk to my friends on skype with it. I'm not sure if there's anything Audacity-side that I can fiddle with.
Thanks in advance

Ensure that Skype is not running - not even in the background. Skype will often grab exclusive control of the mic so that it is not available to other applications.
Then check in the Windows Sound Control Panel to ensure that Windows is seeing a signal (bouncing green bars) when you talk into the mic.

Re: question about microphone input due to updating drivers
Hey thanks for the reply, I removed the drivers and reinstalled them again for my preamp. Now Audacity won't post that error message when I record, and it does pick up my microphone input. But the thing is, it won't pick up any sound, I mean it will, but it's literally quieter than a mouse squeak. And if I try it in the windows setting like you said, the levels don't go up when I "test talk" into it. Anything thing I might have missed? And also forget about the previous post I made about using skype with this microphone, that never happened I was tripping. Basically as far as I'm concerned, since updating the drivers, this microphone just hasn't been able to pick up any, and now any solid, input.
Thanks again

Re: question about microphone input due to updating drivers
Perhaps you should try rolling back the drivers to the previous version.

Re: question about microphone input due to updating drivers
I guess, if it works, why fix it. Funny thing is, I went to the driver part where "roll back drivers" is at, and it's greyed out, I think it's tellin me that the device is working. Although it barely picks up anything. Like I said, when I am in Audacity, and I hit record, and talk on the mic, tiny bumps do show up, and the mic level does move.

Which Windows? My Win7 machine had a Control Panel with little sound meters that bounced when I talked. I bet your sound meters don't bounce. If they don't, Audacity is never going to work very well.

Not enough information - see the pink panel at the top of the page. What is the make and model number of the mic and the pre-amplifier? How are you connecting to the computer? What are the settings you are using in Device Toolbar?
