Recording from line-in

I'm trying to record some vinyls via line-in in Audacity 1.3.6, but I'm running into a problem. Apparently you're supposed to select Line-In from a drop down box in the Mixer Toolbar, but the Mixer Toolbar isn't even there. What's going on?
