Recording questions

Post by cobusmusic » Fri Jan 23, 2009 4:12 am

I am new to using Audacity to record. I have a Tascam US-1641, my CAD mics connected to that, and then connect it to my computer through the USB connection. What do I do to record it to Audacity from the soundboard?

i think if you look in preferences you can see two choices, one for playback input and one for recording input.
select the proper input for recording so you get the feed

I tried that but it doesn't come up as an option.

If you are wanting to record from a USB device, then you will be completely bypassing the computer soundboard.

You need to select the USB device in Audacity Preferences. What options are available?

*Just a note: I was referring to the Tascam US-1641 as a soundboard. Sorry for the misnomer.

If you are using Vista, you may need to go into the Control Panel and enable the Tascam.
See here for help with the Windows Control Panel: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... ng_devices

When enabled, you should be able to see it listed as an option in Audacity.

I use XP but I still enabled the Tascam as my default recording device, but it still doesn't show up as an option to record with Audacity.

Go into the Control Panel and look in "Sounds and Audio Devices". If the Tascam is not available there, then you do not have a Windows driver loaded for that device and Audacity will not be able to use it.

It could be that the Tascam uses an ASIO driver by default, but Audacity does not support ASIO drivers, in which case you may need to manually install a Windows driver (probably a WDM driver). You will probably need to consult the Tascam documentation to find out about this.
