Hi folks,
I use Ubuntu 8.10
I had Audacity 1.3.5 installed but it was missing the Project menu, Analyse menu, and Generate menu. The link to the About box was Audacity Cleanspeech. That was new to me. Not sure if that's to be expected. The title bar also says Audacity Cleanspeech. I assume that's its new name? Anyway... I digress...
So I have now installed 1.3.6
Now I have the appearance of a Transport menu, but still now Project, Analyse, or Generate menu (I see these in screen shots online).
So, for instance, I can not add tracks. I can't record once some recording has already been done.
Is this to be expected? Is that a known limitation of this beta? I see no reference to it when searching for related terms.
With thanks...
Jonathan

Re: Project menu missing (and others)
Okay...
Well I did a complete removal in the package manager. Then manually removed the hidden directories in my home dir.
Reinstalled the Deb I used before (for 1.3.6) it all menus are now there. So I imagine it's all working.
Regards,
Jonathan

"Clean Speech" is a special mode for performing quick tasks on speech recordings. This mode has many of Audacity's features missing from the user interface.
To switch between Clean Speech mode and normal mode, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Interface".

Thanks a lot for pointing that out. I had no idea what the cleanspeech thing was about. That now explains why I had such limited features. I will actually use that mode intentionally now I know what it is, as I am primarily using Audacity for creating PODcasts. So again, much thanks for your input.

Jonathan
PS. Me off to check out switching modes in Aud.
