Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.
The old forums for those versions are now closed, but you can still read the archives of the 1.2.x and 1.3.x forums.

Sorry can I just recap on the essential problem. It appears now that there is not a playback problem in Audacity, in fact Audacity plays to the TV in the same way that Windows Media Player does.

You said you were recordings songs from the internet. Then you say:
All I'm doing is sending audio/video signal via HDMI from computer to the HDTV.
When the computer switches to duplicate screen mode.
Audio to Audacity cuts off.
Audio is seen on volume mixer and heard on HDTV
What sound are you sending to the TV - a song playing in the web browser?

From what you said about Windows Media Player, you can't send a song to the TV unless you are sending video to it. You may have to live with that. So can you play a song in Audacity and hear the song on the TV when you are sending video to it?

But when you play a song in the web browser and send the video and audio to the TV, Audacity won't record it? That would be expected because Realtek Stereo Mix can only record sound playing on the Realtek device. It can't record from the HDMI device.

In that case, Windows WASAPI host in Audacity would be expected to record the song playing on the HDMI output. But your Audio Device Info does not list WASAPI, so I assume you must still be using 1.3.13. Upgrade to 2.0.6 from http://audacityteam.org/download/windows. Then try setting the playback device in Audacity Device Toolbar to the HDMI output and the recording device to the (loopback) of the HDMI output.

It's possible you have a setting in the Realtek Control Panel in the Windows Control Panel itself to determine what the headphones do. They usually have a setting to set the headphones to speaker out, so you can play a song in the built-in speakers and the headphones at the same time. *If* the headphones have a setting to take sound from the HDMI output then you can record that sound by choosing the stereo mix input in Device Toolbar. Otherwise you will have to try WASAPI.

That is correct.

Sorry about that, what I meant to say is:
When the computer switches to duplicate screen mode using the HDMI cable, the audio input to Audacity cuts off.

A group of people and I were about to watch a live audio/video internet stream.
I connected the laptop to the HDTV using the HDMI connection.
Just before the live audio/video internet stream was about to start, I thought
I should record the audio of the live audio/video internet stream.
I opened Audacity and after clicking on the Audacity Input Meter and switching the Audacity Input devices,
I could not find the live audio/video internet stream audio.

All I wanted to do is connect a laptop to a HDTV using HDMI, to watch a live audio/video internet stream coming from the laptop on the HDTV.
And at the same time using Audacity to record just the audio from the live Audio/video internet stream.

Yes, Audacity playback functions normal using HDMI on HDTV.

This answers my question.
Why can't you record from a HDMI device?

This will solve the problem. If it works.
I will Upgrade to 2.0.6 and post the results.

I never could find any setting to set the headphones.
It just says Full range speakers in the Realtek Control Panel.
There are times when it is useful to hear the built-in speakers and the headphones at the same time.
The Laptop manual states that when plugging in headphones it shuts off built-in speakers.
It might be switching off the built-in speakers inside the jack itself.
Unless I'm missing something.

This answers my question.
Why can't you record from a HDMI device?
Because the audio is playing on a different device than the device trying to record it. There is no signal path from HDMI output to Realtek input.
