Using Ubuntu 8.0
I want to join two earlier recorded files. When I open the firs file everything is working OK. When i open the next file in a New window the system is blocked. I get an information window "Progress" with text " inspecting project file data". After that everything is locked. I have to kill the audacity program to be able to use it again. Please help.

Re: Opening two recordings does not work
Open the first file in Audacity, the use "Import" to import the second file into a new track within the same Audacity Window. Then use the "Time Shift Tool" (double headed horizontal arrow) to drag the second track to the right so that the start of the second track lines up with the end of the first track. When you Export from Audacity, the files will be mixed into a single long file.

Re: Opening two recordings does not work
When I try to import a file, recorded earlier by Audacity, I get an information that Audacity does not recognize the file.
In my portable PC I have the same operating system and the same version of Audacity and there I can join recordings without problems. Something wrong with the software in my main computer.

Re: Opening two recordings does not work
Audacity does not "Save" audio files, it "Saves" Audacity projects, which are more like "production environments".
To get an audio file out of Audacity you must use "Export" ("File" menu).
So, open one of the Audacity projects and select from the File Menu "Export". Set the format type to "WAV, Aiff" and in "Options" select "WAV (Microsoft PCM 16 bit)". Give the file a name and export it. You now have a genuine bona fide audio file.
Close Audacity and open your second Audacity project.
You can now Import the WAV file that you Exported from the previous project.
If you only want to Export part of a project, select the part that you want to Export and choose "Export Selected".

Re: Opening two recordings does not work
Thank you for replying. As I told you I have two PC:s with the same software. Joining of Audacity projects works in the portable PC but not in the main PC. There must be something in the basic software in the main PC when Audacity does not work properly in it. Thank you for your comments.
