Recording stops while recording LPs from USB turntable
I'm trying to use an Ion USB turntable to record LPs into my computer. A problem I had for a while was that Audacity would record just a few seconds of sound, and then recording would stop, though the recording "head" would keep moving. I was using a long USB cable, and when I replaced that with the short cable that came with the turntable, things got better, but it still only records for a minute or two, and then recording stops. Any ideas how I can solve this problem?

Re: Recording stops while recording LPs from USB turntable
Is the power to the turntable supplied through the USB connection or a separate power supply. If the USB connection is powering the turntable it could be reducing the voltage and effecting the signal. If it has it's own power supply, suggest you search on here using turntable as the search word, don't think USB is long enough for the search to activate. There has been a lot of chat & problems regarding this subject.

Thanks for the response. The turntable has a separate AC power supply. I searched on "turntable," and didn't find any direct answers. However, I did see a reply about trying the Windows Recorder. I got 60 seconds (the recorder's limit) recorded with that. Then I tried another recording program I have, i-Sound, and it had the same problem as Audacity. I'll keep working on it.

I did try searching for usb & turntable & got over 2000 hits. There has been a lot of chat regarding turntables bought from Aldi, might be worth including that in your search.slrosen wrote:Thanks for the response. The turntable has a separate AC power supply. Re: Recording stops while recording LPs from USB turntable
This is normally a sympton of a poor USB connection.
Try wiggling the USB plug in the socket (gently) - or try an alternative USB socket.
And definitely stick with the shorter USB lead.

Re: Recording stops while recording LPs from USB turntable
Thanks for the reply. I think what I'm going to try next is to use different computer to record. I'll disconnect it from the Internet, and have nothing running on it except Audacity. And I'll make sure that the USB connections are tight. I'll see how that goes.
Re: Recording stops while recording LPs from USB turntable
I solved the problem. I have another PC, and I recorded with that, with nothing running but Audacity and the Internet connection disabled. I'm also using a short (6 ft) USB cable. It works fine now.
