PortAudio error after upgrading to 2.0.6 [SOLVED]
Windows 7 Home Premium - all updates
Audacity 2.0.6
Downloaded EXE file from SourceForge
I updated to 2.0.6 from 2.0.2 and I get an error at start-up: "Error Initializing Audio. Could not find any audio devices. You will not be able to play or record. Internal PortAudio error." And in Preferences there is nothing at all showing in any of the four drop-downs. My audio devices showed up fine in the previous version and I had just completed a project and exported an MP3 file the day before. What happened? How to fix this?

I did not see that option presented.

The option in the installer (Windows) is to "reset preferences". The default is that previous settings are retained.stearman65 wrote:Did you tick the keep my settings when you up-graded.
Check in the Windows Sound Control Panel. Does your computer have both recording and playback devices available (visible and enabled)?jwarsaw wrote:"Error Initializing Audio. Could not find any audio devices. You will not be able to play or record. Internal PortAudio error."

Re: PortAudio error after upgrading to 2.0.6
Both playback options are enabled: Speakers and Headphones (default) and Communications Headphones. Recording options are enabled too. Other software is using audio okay.
Re: PortAudio error after upgrading to 2.0.6
If Audacity launches, please post the output from "Help menu > Audio device info".

Re: PortAudio error after upgrading to 2.0.6
The Host will be blank if you have no detected recording or playback devices.
I don't think PortAudio was updated between 2.0.5 and 2.0.6. Did you ever have 2.0.5?
Click the Windows globe, click All Programs, click Accessories and then click Run. In the Open box, type:
When all the information has loaded, click "Save All Information..." and attach the saved text file. See How to attach files to forum posts .
