Strange ALSA input device menu for EMU1212 card

Strange ALSA input device menu for EMU1212 card

Ubuntu Studio 64-bit 14.04LTS
Audacity 2.0.5 from repository
EMU1212 PCI Sound device

I have a strange problem concering the input device menu.
Normally, the input device menu should list EMU1010 Standard PCM Playback/Capture, EMU1010 Multichannel Capture, plus other possible devices selections.
Some of the time (boots), but not always, I see a list of EMU1212 subentries, like default:DSP 1-32, pulse:ADAT 0:0, ...etc.
There are hundreds of them, i think even the menu repeats itself indefinetly.
Also, it is not possible to find a device that works for input. Even if it would, 2ch stereo would not be possible since the list consists of separate channnels.
The output device menu does not have this problem.

The only workaround I have found is to reboot until it works.

Anyone seen this?

Is it some mixup between emu and audigy?
If I understand correctly, these two names mean the same device.

No, but my guess is that there is a start-up script that needs to be run to make the sound card work and that sometimes bootup tries to run the script before the sound card is initialised, and so fails.

The next time that it happens, rather than rebooting, try just logging out and back in again.
