Do you mean "Always render selected leading/trailing space as silence" ?
Yes I do, given that option only exports the selection. The challenge will be making that wording concise and understandable.

Perhaps radio buttons:
    • Start to end of selected audio.
    • Start to end of selection.

If I had only selected audio I might be struggling to understand what that meant.

If you only selected audio it wouldn't matter. Either setting will work.

In context it may be more obvious, or perhaps with a Help button (if they're working now).

Is there an FR emerging here - will there be a written Proposal?

I thought there was already a FR for "export from start of time-line" (perhaps different wording), though I don't see it on http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Feature_Requests
It certainly should be on there because it's a feature that I requested shortly after that behaviour was scrapped.

There are a few votes there at http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Featu ... ing_Tracks under "Export Multiple" (though Export Multiple no longer exports leading white space). I have quite a few more votes to add to it, and there are some detailed suggestions in this topic.

I've archived this now, as I have noted the URL and can refer to it.
