Select All of One Track
Audacity 1.3.6, Intel Mac OS-X 10.5.6.
Load a known good stereo wav file. Duplicate it so you have one above the other. Now Select-All on one of the two.
No, I couldn't do it, either. You can click and drag and hope to goodness you got it all...

Re: Select All of One Track
Got it. You double click inside the track you want and the whole track becomes selected. I wonder if the earlier ones did that?

Re: Select All of One Track
In Audacity 1.3.5 (Linux) you can click below the track name (above the "solo" and "mute" buttons) to select the track.
(Shift+Click will toggle track selection - quite handy if you want to select tracks 1 and 3)

Re: Select All of One Track
My application had me toggling "solo" between two tracks to compare them. I couldn't figure out a one-key method to do that.
I may stop using Mac 1.3.5. My install would drop the "solo" every time I would apply noise reduction. The upshot is I thought Noise Reduction was broken because my proof pass would start playing both tracks and my noise would go up instead of down. I don't think my 1.3.6 does that.
I swear the Mac versions of Audacity have "Magic" problems. Something odd goes wrong and it slows down production. And then it does it again, [email protected]#$% so I stop what I'm doing and get out the pencil and paper to write down the steps needed to recreate the trouble, and the trouble vanishes. It looks up at me with those big eyes and says, "Who, me?"

The problem is that the manual is not yet complete, so some of the cool new features are not documented.
I don't think that the new "solo" feature is documented yet, but it is really cool....
Go into Audacity Preferences and open the "Interface" tab.
Bottom right - "Solo Button" - set to "Simple - solo will now do what you want. One click on one solo button and one track is played solo.
But I have a multi-track recording of my band and I want to solo the guitar AND the bass (at the same time),
No problem - "Solo Button" set to "standard" - I can now "solo" as many tracks I like, just like in a real recording studio.
Now you can complain that "simple" should be the default

Oh, I've got a lot more serious things to complain about than that. Some of the tool data entry windows don't work right in Mac Land, etc. I routinely get stuck not being able to close Audacity. What. Yes, Audacity will not close unless you know the spell. Only sometimes. I got Audacity jammed in such a way that I couldn't execute the spells the other day. I thought I was going to have to close it by killing the UNIX process.
I don't like doing that. It makes my fingers sore and it singes the curtains.

Oh I've had to do that so many times while trying to get my Nyquist programs to work (accidentally writing perpetual loops - oops ) that I now keep the "System Monitor" open so I can kill it easily.kozikowski wrote:I got Audacity jammed in such a way that I couldn't execute the spells the other day. Fortunately it's a bit better behaved than that and just hovers around the 50% mark chasing its own tail rather than locking everything up.kozikowski wrote:<<<(accidentally writing perpetual loops - oops )>>>

Yea, this one has been a thorn in my side for a while now. I know what the issue is, but I have yet to find a fix. The way to get out of this situation is simply to select Project->New. Then just close the newly opened project. I know it sucks and I promise...I WILL find and kill this sucker!!!kozikowski wrote: Oh, I've got a lot more serious things to complain about than that.
