Frankly, I don't know. I've only seen older FR and more recently, 18i20 and such. I just suppose it needs it too.
According to the FR website, it runs in class compliant mode on OSX, but needs drivers on Windows. But I believe we might have one user on each platform?

On my reading, Focusrite only encourage Scarlett Mix Control for 6i6, 8i6, 18i6, 18i8 and 18i20.

Re: My Scarlet 2i2 does not show as an option for input/outp
Hi there,
If this is still occurring, it may be an issue with unnecessary drivers blocking the 2i2 from showing up on your Mac. Feel free to drop us an email at [email protected] and we'll look in to this with you.
To clarify, Scarlett MixControl is only necessary for the 6i6 upwards, as the outputs for the smaller interfaces in the range are not DSP routable, which is essentially the main function of MixControl.
Thanks,
Dan

And if you solve it, do post back and tell us how you did it. This is a forum for sharing, not a help desk.

The 'driver' I got was from the Focusrite website. I presumed that was the issue, but now when I tried to use it today again Audacity doesn't display the 2i2 in the drop down menus, but the lights come on the unit when I plug it in the USB port. Tried Transport > Rescan Audio Devices (not work), closed Audacity/reopened (not work) unplug/replug 2i2 (not work). So maybe it wasn't the 'driver'. I'm puzzled now. I hope to get it working soon to record my song so I can make $500,000 next week.

I would uninstall that driver. As far as I can see there are no extra drivers or software required for the 2i2 - so installing a driver not meant for 2i2 may make things worse.kennyk wrote:The 'driver' I got was from the Focusrite website. Did you try my previous suggestions?kennyk wrote:Tried Transport > Rescan Audio Devices (not work), closed Audacity/reopened (not work) unplug/replug 2i2 (not work). So maybe it wasn't the 'driver'. I'm puzzled now.
If you don't have OS X 10.6.5 or later, upgrade to it.
Have you opened /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, clicked the Input tab, selected the 2i2, then set it to the same sample rate as the Audacity Project Rate (bottom left of Audacity)? Also set the same number of input channels in Audio MIDI as you have set in Audacity.
You can ask Dan for help if you are still stuck (see above).
