My Scarlet 2i2 does not show as an option for input/output
Mac 10.9.3; Audacity 2.0.5
I'm new to Audacity and my Focusrite Scarlet 2i2. When I connect my 2i2, the computer recognizes it, but it is not showing up in the output or input drop downs to choose it as an option. Help!

If Audacity was open before you connected the Scarlet, you will need to do:
Transport menu > Rescan Audio Devices.
Wait a few moments for the scan to complete, then look again in the device toolbar.

Hi Tracy,
Does the 2i2 appear within Mac system preferences or is not showing here either? Is the green USB light illuminated on the front of the 2i2?
All the best,
Miles

I'm having the same problem. Using an old Macbook Pro with 10.6. The green USB light on the scarlett 2i2 comes on but it does not appear in the drop down list for recording. I'm not a sophisticated user of either mac or the scarlett (just bought both). I tried Transport > Rescan but that didn't work. Closed and re-opened Audacity but that didn't work. Any other suggestions? thanks

Do you have OS X 10.6.5 or later which is required http://uk.focusrite.com/downloads/os?pr ... arlett+2i2?kennyk wrote:I'm having the same problem. Using an old Macbook Pro with 10.6. Have you opened /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, clicked the Input tab, selected the 2i2, then set it to the same sample rate as the Audacity Project Rate (bottom left of Audacity)? Also set the same number of input channels in Audio MIDI as you have set in Audacity.
If you don't see 2i2 in Audio MIDI Setup, that is what you need to fix.
Make sure you have the latest Audacity 2.1.0 from http://web.audacityteam.org/download.

Which software was that? Scarlett say (somewhat confusingly) that the "Scarlett 2i2 runs in class-compliant mode on a Mac. No driver is required. Simply plug and play".kennyk wrote:downloaded the software for the Scarlett and now it appears.
But below that they say "If you have previously installed the Focusrite USB driver".

Re: My Scarlet 2i2 does not show as an option for input/outp
I suppose the 2i2, like all other Focusrite interfaces, needs an app (Scarlet MixControl?) to set up the interface. The interface itself is USB Audio compliant and doesn't need real drivers.
The bigger Focusrites store the settings in the interface (don't know about the 2i2) and it'll work without the app. But a new one doesn't have settings yet...

So a new one is likely to have the "safe" settings of low volume, plain stereo (or maybe mono), default data settings, etc.
