Exported a track but it is panned to the left

Post by rapattack » Sat May 31, 2014 12:08 pm

I muted The first track which is the music backing track and exported the 2nd track which is the vocals. The person i am sending the track to says it is panned to the left. i really have no idea how to pan one way or another. I have osx10.6 installed and audacity 2.0.5 . Both tracks are stereo and i can see when i go to export i can choose joint stereo(default) or stereo. Is there a difference. I guess so. Not sure what it means. Thanks appreciate any help

When recording the vocal track, set the number of recording channels to "1 (mono) channel" (in the device toolbar)

Probably yes.

Can you post a screen shot of your Audacity project so that we can see what the problem is.
To upload the picture to the forum, use the "Upload attachment" option below the message composing box.

You can see that the second track has a much bigger (vertically) waveform in the upper (left) channel than the lower (right) channel.
Assuming that the left channel sounds OK, all you need to do is select the "Split Stereo to Mono" option in the track drop-down menu (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sp ... racks.html) then delete the lower (quiet) track (by clicking on the [X] in the top left corner of the track.
