Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: help.. i'm new
You have the same system I do (at home).
Launch Audacity and when it arrives, click once inside the right-hand sound meters. They should light up and show you the same music that you saw on the Mac System Panels The little microphone symbol near the center should say Default Input.
Still nothing?
Audacity > Preferences > Audio I/O > Recording > Channels Stereo.
Audacity > Preferences > Quality > Rate 44100
Audacity > Preferences > Quality > Sample Format 16-bit
Restart Audacity and try it all again.
