Windows 7 and Audacity 2.0.5 Compatibility

Please state which version of Windows you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Help menu > About Audacity".
Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.

Windows 7 and Audacity 2.0.5 Compatibility
I currently am using XP with Audacity 2.0.3 (.exe) and within the next month or so plan on purchasing a new Dell and from what I've read have Windows 7. My business is recording voice overs mostly for games and animation. I want to know if Audacity and Windows 7 are absolutely compatible before I make the purchase. Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes Audacity is compatible with Windows 7 or we would not advertise such on our download pages.

"Compatibile" still means that you may receive tunnel effects when recording due to Windows settings, or may need to enable your microphone in Windows or change its sample rate, or the sound card that comes built-in to the computer will not be of professional quality. Most problems people encounter on Windows 7 are lack of familiarity with Windows 7 but are already covered in the above Wiki page.
That said, Audacity is free and there is no warranty whatsoever with Audacity.

Newer Windows machines naturally assume you're going to do business and corporate communications work (Skype, etc.) and are no longer general purpose computers. Because of that, many laptops no longer accept a stereo Line-In connection from a mixer and even if you do manage to connect it, the show will be subject to Noise Rejection and other automatic Windows conferencing processing.
It can be a challenge.
How do you have your microphone connected to your computer? Don't leave out any steps.
Audacity will cheerfully record anything the computer provides, but you have to get your show past Dell, Windows and Intel before we get it.
