Error while opening a sound device.

Help for Audacity on Windows.

and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Help menu > About Audacity".

Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.

Error while opening a sound device.

I have been using audacity for voice recording for a while and have not had troubles. Now a message comes up when I insert a new track and try recording through a microphone on my computer. I read the advice and am confused. Now the previous recordings won't even play.

If you need more help, please tell us what version of Windows and what version of Audacity (see the pink panel at the top of the page) and what device you are trying to use for playback.
