Hi,
I'm doing a comparative study into the demos and album versions of songs by the band Arctic Monkeys. I've been using Audacity's plot spectrum feature to compare spectral differences in 4 bar sections, and I like the fact that this information can be displayed logarithmically. Can anyone tell me if the resulting spectra are peak or RMS?
Thanks,
Justin

Re: Plot Spectrum - Peak or RMS?
Sorry Justin I can't answer this - in the meantime you may find it useful to look at this page in the manual that is being developed for the upcoming 1.4 release: http://www.audacityteam.org/manual/inde ... alyze_Menu
I did have a quick read and the article doesn't seem to offer clarification though on what you are asking.

Re: Plot Spectrum - Peak or RMS?
Its not either. They are window functions. The mathematics are rather complicated, but they give a good indication of relative levels without needing to get involved with the complexities of Fast Fourier Transforms.justin morey wrote:Can anyone tell me if the resulting spectra are peak or RMS?
