Can Wav individual Wav files be Exported as 24 bit

Post by jerrysires » Sun Dec 07, 2008 8:36 pm

I would like to export individual tracks of Wav files to a folder on my desktop at 24 bit rate. The "Export selection" seems to offer only 16 bit for a Wav file. This seems odd since you can work with Wav files in Audacity in 16, 24, or floating 32 bit. I am using 1.3 Beta. Thanks, Jerry Sires

24 bit WAV is not very widely used, so it is not one of the main options, but it is still there:

Export Selected
Select "WAV AIFF and other uncompressed types"
Click on "Options"
In the "Format" field, select "Other..."
In the "Header" field select "WAV"
In the "Encoding" field select "Signed 24 bit PCM"

(note there are other forms of 24 bit WAV, but I assume that this is the one that you want).

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed to know. It would be nice in the sample format chosen for the track was also the default export format. And there may a good reason that it is not. But now that I know, it is not much trouble to make the changes. Jerry
