Why do you want to do that - the sound quality of 5 bit audio will be extremely poor - worse than a telephone, and it is a very strange format to use for anything.

Audacity is probably not the best tool for this (assuming that you actually want to do what you are saying you want to do(.

Actually I wanted to lower the sounds I got from http://www.damagedgames.com/ of 16 bit to 8 bit (The Mega Man X type sounds).

Also Here is what I was attempting to do (I get sprites from http://www.spriters-resource.com/ click on say Capcom, Nintendo etc.) I wanted to make an example to show others how they can make their own Mega Man/X stuff with a Mega Man/X level builder inside (meaning I use code and create their move(s)/other(s) and people can go to the sprites and change the sprites etc.) for Game Maker 7.0 unregistered.

I will post a YouTube video about what I had in mind if it'll be easier.

BTW here is a list of bosses (the are not all but 8/36) I had in mind just for the fun of it (Privae Message me for weaknesses):

Bully Man
Can Opener Man
RotWiller Man
Trash Man
Bulldozer Man
Sleep Man
Clock Man
Thief Man

So you want to convert from 16 bit to 8 bit.

1) Download Audacity 1.3.6 and install it.
2) Import your 16 bit audio.
3) Edit it as required.
4) Select "Export" from the "File" menu.
5) In the Export Dialogue, select "WAV, AIFF and other uncompressed file types"
6) Clck on "Options" and select "WAV (Microsoft 8 bit PCM)" as the format, then click OK.
7) Enter a file name and click on "SAVE".

Yes it should - 1.3.7 has replaced 1.3.6
