Thanks for the replies.

I tested, and iTunes is not overwriting the metatags. And actually, if I open an MP3 that was podcasted into iTunes, change it in Audacity, and export it as MP3, all the meta data stays intact. It seems like the meta data is only being discarded using the exportMP3 chain command...

With regards to the folders, I did find a utility called PowerTunes (http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powertune ... lders.html) that lets you keep separate music folders, but I would think there's an easier way to do that within iTunes itself. I'll keep looking - thanks again.
