Bug in .aiff export

This will be fixed for the next stable (1.4.0) release in several months, possibly sooner. If you use the explicit "AIFF 16 bit" filter (i.e. not the one in "Other uncompressed files", renaming the exported file to WAV might well let iTunes open it, then you could convert it to AIFF if required.

And I can tell you that Export Multiple under Highly Experimental 1.3.7 doesn't work at all.

Can you explain that? The only other thing I *know* of (on all platforms) is that Export Multiple will just fail without warning if there is an empty label - no files will be produced. There was someone on OS X 10.5 a few weeks ago who said he could not find any AIFF files after multiple exporting, but the report was vague about what filter he was using. If he used other uncompressed files > AIFF, obviously he would not find any AIFF files with the current bug, as they would be WAV's.

It just didn't work. The Execute button wouldn't click. I started life with my 6 second Piano Trill and put a bunch of markers in it with Apple-B. File > Export Multiple > 16 bit AIFF. The OK button is blue but will not click.

I suppose if you weren't paying attention, you would assume that the execute did work but you didn't get any exported files.

I was exporting to my desktop and I didn't get any files WAV or otherwise.

I select "export as aiff" but, regardless, am notified that export is occurring as .wav. Oddly, files appear in save location with the .aiff extension, but these are not .aiff files - rather, they are .wav files. The saved files will not import into iTunes.

This puzzles me, as I have no problem in importing WAV files made with Audacity into iTunes. I export as 44.1kHz 16-bit PCM stereo.

Works ok either if I import the WAV files directly into iTunes, or if I burn a music CD with the WAVs and rip that into iTunes.

Have you changed the file extension to WAV as suggested by other users in this thread? They are WAV 16 bit PCM so will import into iTunes if named with WAV extension.

The build for testing is here.

Export Multiple does now work properly on Windows and Linux with the explicit AIFF and WAV filters (GSM WAV only supports mono as per format specification), and with the options chosen with the other "Other Uncompressed Files" filter.

Can the people who've posted here please try exporting from the explicit filters and the options in "Other Uncompressed Files", and let us know the results?

I get the same problem. Nothing reads the Audacity AIFF - Quicktime, iTunes, and Bias Peak all fail. Perhaps hardware config is an issue? I am using dual G4....

Yes, but have you renamed it to WAV, because they are WAV files even if they have AIFF extension. And would you be able to try the development build I posted, where the problem should be fixed?

Audacity 1.3.7-alpha

I opened Piano2.wav and exported--changing the WAV export to AIFF. The export seemed to give me a proper AIFF file because it slides right into QuickTime Player 7.5.5 and iTunes 8.0.2

QuickTime INFO:
piano2.aiff: 16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48,000KHz


But I had to restart Audacity to do it. The first launch gave me scrambled sound file project specifications and Quit was gray. I didn't go any further than that. I closed it with the red ball and then Quit.

As above, fresh start.

This time I APPLE-B added 4 labels to the performance. Export Multiple, numbered files, and change to AIFF. The four AIFF files will play in QuickTime Player and iTunes.

I did note that Export Multiple launches the MetaData dialog box for each output file. That's annoying.

Is that normal?
