How do I make a voice sound like Double from Skullgirls?

Post by AnimationAbomination » Thu Aug 22, 2013 2:12 am

Ever played Skullgirls? It's a hard game but really fun, with great art and music. Equally great is the voice acting. Some of the voice acting has some really cool audio effects.

I would like to know if it's possible to use Audacity to make a voice sound like Double, from Skullgirls. I tried an attempt (attached below) but it's missing a certain... something.

I have tried to search on Youtube, Google, and this very website but it looks like no one knows how to do this or even tried. And it doesn't look like the developers are giving away their secrets at any time.

The video to use as a reference is posted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYNQK6qcLNA

Dalek speak from Doctor Who.

You could try Effect > Vocoder.

You might run into another very common problem. Much of the performance is theatrical reading, not just applying a filer. You can't start with Aunt Minnie reading a list of ingredients for a cake and end up with Dalek's threatening to wipe humanity off the face of the earth. You have to five the filters a head start by reading or singing the part

There's definitely a Vocoder type effect in there.
This is a bit like tasting some food and then trying to guess the recipe. In this case the "food" is a mash-up of all sorts of ingredients that have been diced, crushed, boiled, baked, mashed, simmered, spiced, sweetened, thickened, whisked, sieved, and regurgitated. There is no "one effect" that does that.

Is there a clue in the title ? : the voice is doubled-up : two versions at different pitches,
e.g. using auto talent ...

Maybe throw in some random pitch modulation ...
