Other freeware for Magical 8-bit plugin to work.

Post by testingscript64 » Sat Aug 17, 2013 8:36 pm

I am using the latest version (2.0.3) of audacity and Magical 8-bit plugin will not work (http://www.ymck.net/en/download/magical8bitplug/).
I have posted a question on yahoo answers about other freeware like audacity for Magical 8-bit plugin to work but from there I wont get fast answers. I don't use garageband because I only have a windows. Is there any freeware out there other than audacity for Magical 8-bit plugin to work on?

I wanted the Magical 8bit Plug to work but its a VSTi plug-in so it can't work on audacity. If they can I want them to make audacity to be compatible with VSTi plugins so I can finally make 8 bit music without the stress of having to find VSTi software because most are payware

The usual solution is to use a small free standalone VSTi host rather than find an audio editor that includes VSTi support for free.

For example:

http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm

http://www.tobybear.de/p_minihost.html .

These are old now so I don't know how well they work on Windows 7 or Windows 8. Try them.

When you have the sound playing in the host then you can record it. It's usually best to do that with an audio routing program like Virtual Audio Cable but that is not free. Both hosts above have some ability to record their own output. Read their documentation or ask on their Forums.

Alternatively you can record computer playback in Audacity if your computer supports it. See http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tu ... puter.html .

That's called sequencing audio. Audacity doesn't do this, it only edits audio. Use wonderful freeware like MODPlug Tracker to sequence and export it to Audacity for mixing & mastering (that's what I do).
