Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

how to change the selection lenght while in the loop play?

Post by kvochko » Sun Nov 23, 2008 12:13 am

ok..need a help

How to change selection of a region while in play loop mode? Whenever I try to change the lenght of the selection, audacity still playbacks the initial lenght of the loop. Even if I move the loop arrow line, loop playback is still not updating the change on the screen. Only if I change the selection lenght then stop the playback and play it again, the new lenght is set. This is so frustrating...

Please help

Thanks

But perfectly consistent with Audacity never doing anything in real time. If for no other good reason than it's impossible to construct an UNDO if you do that. It's not a DAW and will not apply filters during a capture, either.

Is there a valid reason why it's hard to develop realtime features? Is it too complex? Are there some patent protections related to some of features? What's the deal?

Yes its complex and would involve quite a lot of programming effort - and as the Audacity development team is staffed entirely by volunteers who work in their spare time - and the team is quite small (can you program? - fresh volunteers are always welcomed).

Also there is the matter of resource consumption on the user's computer: Audacity is already a fairly resource-hungry application - adding real-time functionality would demand even more from your computer ....

So, I don't think there's much chance that in the short term the developers will add real-time functionality. It is, however, one of the most-requested features on the Audacity Feature Request list, which is maintained on the Wiki - see: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... hest-rated it currently has 35 votes, you may wish to add yours.
