stereo or mono setting
i am a new user, version 2, i am using a usb microphone to record a podcast, i am using the soundcard that is installed with the laptop, i have no idea whether i am supposed to select "mono" or "stereo" when i am recording my voice for the podcast. Thanks for any help. Lewis

You may have no choice. USB microphones tend to only work if Audacity is set for mono (unless you have a really odd microphone). The soundcard isn't used.
Please note that you need to plug in the microphone and then in a bit, launch Audacity, in that order. Also, if you're on Windows, it's possible that Windows will try and send the show sound out to the microphone instead of your speakers and your "sound will stop working." Reset this with the Audacity playback toolbar -- or unplug the microphone.
