Mixer Dropdown in Windows XP

Mixer Dropdown in Windows XP

They talked about the dropdown not working in Vista But what do I do about the dropdown not showing up in windows XP I've tried most of what they suggested with no luck!

Yes, I've had that on some machines as well. It is down to the sound card drivers and whether they want to play nicely with Audacity. If the dropdown does not work, then the workaround is the same as in Vista - rather than trying to control the sound card from Audacity, do it directly from the sound card graphical user interface (GUI). The sound card driver GUI may either be the "Windows Mixer", or a customised control panel for your sound card, but in either case it is usually found as a loudspeaker icon near the system clock in the lower right corner of the desktop.

(If you are talking about USB sound cards, these are different, in which case look in the Audacity wiki (link at top of page) for "USB").
