While recording, I get random bits of static

Post by aerospac3 » Mon Nov 17, 2008 11:38 am

Hello.

I am using Audacity on Windows XP and, while recording with no noise whatsoever on the 'what u hear' setting, the track looks like this:

Now, I'm no expert, but im pretty sure that those lines are pretty big for no sound to be coming through.

In addition, whenever I intend on recording something, the sound is very hollow and interrupted by the static. A closer look at the above track that is supposed to be silent shows this:

Random interruptions. Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated.

Are you recording from a USB device?

I do have audacity portable on a USB, but these problems are all from using Audacity installed on my computer.

I think he wants to know where is the sound coming from. Did you plug a microphone into your sound card? Are you recording a USB turntable?

We sometimes need to step back and look at the whole system to figure out what's wrong.
