Samson Go Mic not seen in Audacity 2.0.3

Post by jimmetzner » Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:41 pm

I'm running Audacity 2.0.3 using OSX 10.5.8 on a MacBook laptop. The Mac sees the Samson Go Mic just fine. In preferences, I've set it as the dafault input. Audacity does not recognize the mic. In the drop down menu and prefs, it only gives me the built in microphone as an option. anyone way to get Audacity to see this Mic?
Thanks;
Jim

Try setting Audacity Preferences to mono, 16-bit, 44100.

I've selected a mono track and a sample rate of 16 bit and 44100 under preferences quality. have selected these same parameters on the transport itself. however this has no effect on the dropdown menu which still does not "see" the Samson mic. it sees the built in mic, even though I've set the default input in system prefs to be the Samson. the problem seems to be Audacity isn't seeing the Samson as a viable input, irregardless of the sample rate, etc. I've searched elsewhere online and have not seen a solution for this. Perhaps Audacity just does not work with this mic. Am still hoping someone has discovered a workaround.

thanks;
Jim

Restart Audacity with the microphone plugged in. Audacity only looks for microphones when it starts. Koz

Bingo; that worked. Thank-you. I would encourage you to include this most helpful tip on your FAQ's if not the basic recording instructions. I suspect the same fix would hold true for all USB mics?

You don't have to do that. There is a tool that does the same thing, but Transport > Rescan Audio Devices doesn't trip off the tongue nearly as lightly as "restart Audacity."

And yes, USB or FireWire devices all work the same way. Any time you install or uninstall audio devices. The only reason you don't have to do that for an analog device like an external analog microphone is the computer thinks the "device" is your sound card, not the mic.
